President Obama presented the award and the concert, "Burt Bacharach & Hal David" featured performances by Sheryl Crow, Michael Feinstein, Diana Krall, Lyle Lovett, Mike Myers, Rumer, Arturo Sandoval, Sheléa and Stevie Wonder. This was the first time the Gershwin Prize honor was awarded to a songwriting team.
